Be aware that with warmer temperatures and snow melt, a morning or early afternoon ascent and a late afternoon descent will drastically change the creek flows and users may be hard pressed to find ways to stay dry. This is not a beginner hike during spring runoff season and the risk of getting wet or slipping on wet rocks is quite high. For this reason, this area is usually quite void of people during the spring and fall, since most people will look for true mountain hiking over the potential challenge of what this trail can offer.
The caves are cool - both by temperature and in discussing the scenery - and while they may not be as sexy as waterfalls or summits, this trail is still a nice outing. Users should park in the ditch where Highway 11 crosses Hoodoo Creek and then they should head up the creek-bed as far as they feel comfortable for a different kind of experience.
Crescent Falls. Length: 0. This quick nature experience follows a very easy trail with huge payoff for waterfall lovers. The parking areas are generally quite full, but after a quick walk from the parking area, you will come to the first viewpoint just below the parking area.
If you hike on the marked trail you can go down the side to get right up close to the falls, but be sure to wear proper footwear since many of these trails are always very muddy. Hikers recommend taking some of the side trails to see some magnificent lookout views. Access to the area below the first waterfall may be closed due to high flow and dangerous trail conditions and thin ice make the area unsafe for travel. Designated trails and viewing platforms are still accessible to the public.
Ram Falls. Whitegoat Falls. Length: 2. Coral Creek Canyon Trail. Length: 8. This multi-use trail along the pretty Coral Creek Canyon is an extremely enjoyable hike that will take you by some lovely lookouts and views sweeping the area with a mostly treed approach.
This trail is mountain-bike, pedestrian and equestrian friendly. Depending on the weather, the adventure here can become intense in terms of sun exposure or snowfall since the path is quite wide with little canopy coverage for the first few kilometres and changes intermittently thereafter as you get further into the forest.
Overall, the trail is quite easy with spectacular views throughout and lots of good spots to rest and enjoy the view. There are even some really neat fossils visible in the rock walls of the valley as well. While hiking is fun and easy here, folks also recommend coming back to snowshoe or cross-country ski during the winter.
