When you scroll your mouse above them it will say potential roommate above them. You will get to talk to your potential roommate and get to know them before making a decision, be sure to choose get to know as an interaction so you can learn some of their traits.
You may not want a slob roommate for example! If you meet a roommate that you feel would be a good fit, you can choose accept as new roommate when you click on them and they will move right in. No roommates are turning up at my house with three beds, 2 showers, 2 toilets and 2 sinks and a kitchen. I have an extra bed in my house, but still not getting an option to add my sims boyfriend as a roommate. First question, do you have Discover University installed? I keep placing an advertisement for a roommate but no one ever shows up. I am able to add someone I know, but it never works with the advertisement. Waited several sim days every time. Does anyone know of a way to increase the probability of them saying yes?
Every other time, Sims always say yes! I wish I could help! They will keep their job, they will leave the house, they will eat, sleep, watch TV, bathe, etc, but they can't be controlled by you. Once a week they will pay rent. The roommate does remove a household slot from the pool, so keep that in mind.
For example, if you had two playable sims and two roommates, the game counts that as four sim slots being taken up out of the possible eight maximum. You would only be able to add four more playable sims, four more roommates, or any combination that adds up to four to the household.
So for sims you don't have to control, you'd be wanting to add roommates. The game will do the controlling of the roommate for you. Hopefully that helps sort it out! Two things I can think of off the top of my head, and a third "maybe" option: 1. Do you have a bed for your friend to sleep in? I don't think the option appears if there is no place for them to sleep.
Roommates count toward the 8-sim limit, so if you already have 8 sims in your household, you can't add a roommate. Do you have University Life installed? I think roommates and roommate services on your smartphone got added by this EP not sure on this one.
If this is the case and it's not installed, the option won't appear. Just as an added thought, it's possible that your relationship is too high. I remember seeing it with Sims that are at or around "Friend", but don't recall seeing it at higher relationship levels. On the other hand, if I want a Sim to be a roommate, I just "Add Roommate" with Master Controller check to make sure that they aren't partnered with another Sim first, though. Master Controller I also use the Cheats add-on is available from nraas. The site was reported to be undergoing maintenance over the weekend, so might still be down. If so, just check back tomorrow and it should be up. Anyway, both MC and Cheats are.
